Nollywood is the best example of Africans consuming what we produce. Nollywood is the world’s second largest film industry. Thousands of films are released in a year in Nollywood.

And there are Nollywood movies that top Hollywood blockbusters in African cinemas.

If you’ve done a thoroughly research on Nollywood movies or if you’re a big fan of Nollywood movies then you will agree with me that the quality of Nollywood movies keep on getting better and better every single day, thanks to great filmmakers like Kunle Afolayan, Biyi Bandele, Mildred Okwo and many more. And films like The Wedding Party, October 1, The Meeting, ’76, ……..are a good proof to that.

Some movies have managed to be extremely successful to the point that they attracted sequels....... Am not talking about the bullshit sequels of the same story divided into Part I and Part II which have Part I that end with…. “WATCH OUT FOR PART 2”……. Am talking about real sequels.

In 2016, The Wedding Party premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and shocked the cinema world after breaking box office records in Nollywood. The Wedding Party became the highest grossing movie in Nollywood cashing in 453,000,000 Millions of Naira from a budget of merely 60,000,000 Million Naira. Apart from crashing the box office the movie also received favorable reviews from critics. And that record came to be broken by it’s sequel The Wedding Party 2. The Director behind this MASTERPIECE was KEMI ADETIBA. And it was Kemi’s first feature film.

Kemi Adetiba is a very interesting Nigerian filmmaker. I’ve been following Kemi’s Instagram page and it is one of my favorite Instagram pages. Kemi constantly gives out really good life and career advice and even helps out aspiring filmmakers in making their dreams come true. With The Wedding Party Kemi Adetiba unlocked doors which most of us never imagined that they existed.

In an era where young Africans struggle with loving our own African commodities Kemi Adetiba showed us that we can do better. In an era where people say that Africans won’t consume African commodities over foreign goods Kemi Adetiba showed how untrue that is. And in an era when young Africans struggle with creating stable and successful careers Kemi Adetiba showed us that we can be the next Tyler Perries or Steven Spielbergs from right here in Africa and today some young people in Africa like me can say that when I grow up, I want to be like Kemi Adetiba.

The Wedding Party is available on Netflix and the trailer of Kemi Adetiba’s new movie King of Boys is out.

Thank Me Later.
